A great bathroom speaks for its house and for its homeowners. Even though it is a private place in the house, its also among the most used places whether by the homeowners or by the guests. An extreme bathroom makeover could be done, actually with just simple tips. But if you would really like to transform your bathroom, then consider changing the tiles.
Having the right tiles and colors could make your bathroom look elegant, classy and even spacious. Most of us would get tile advice from professionals, however, there are times when the style of these professionals do not fit our own style or may fall short in translating what we really want. So, why not choose your own bathroom tiles?
Choosing Your Bathroom Tiles
Consider the material that you want. There are different kinds of tiles. The most common tiles found in the bathroom which is also known to be the most durable are the ceramic ones. Glass bathroom tiles are very classy but are also more expensive. If you are after more economical options, then you could look for vinyl tiles. The tiles that you will be using will depend on the overall design and theme of that you want for your bathroom.
There are simple tiles that have solid colors, there are also tiles that have designs or patterns on them. The tiles that have designs could serve as accents in places that you would like highlight in your bathroom. However, when choosing patterned or designed tiles, do not choose something which that has too much going on. It could overwhelm the room. To be safe, you can choose tiles that have clean and simple designs. If you are adventurous, then mosaic tiles would be a great choice. You can even go for bold colors and lines.
If you have a small bathroom, then light-colored designs could make an illusion of a spacious room. They reflect the light more than the dark colored tiles. Also, if you use the same color for you walls and floors, it would also give an airy and spacious effect. To enhance it the spacious feel, you can add mirrors.
Another thing that you should consider when getting tiles are tile size. Some tile manufacturers would advise you against using large tiles in a small bathroom, since it will make your bathroom even smaller. But for some homeowners, seeing too much grout lines ruin the bathroom effect you are after. Fortunately, there are medium sized tiles that you could choose.
Installing the Tiles
If you already have the right tiles that represents your personality and style, then you are ready to have the tiles laid out in your floor and walls. Make sure that you have measured the floor and walls where you will be putting the tiles. When you purchase your tiles, the store could help you calculate how many tiles you would be needing based on the size of the tiles.
Tiling can be tricky. The first tile actually dictates the rest of the tiles. So, make sure that it is perfect. For corners or like tiles under the tub, you could cut the tiles as you go. You do not want to precut something which you would not eventually use. If you are not confident with your tiling skill, you can always get help from a professional. You do not want to have crooked tiles for your floors and walls or poorly installed tiles. They can cause problems, like cracks, in the future.
Having an extreme bathroom makeover entails a lot of work, creativity and patience. But definitely, having an elegant bathroom that you will be proud of will be worth it.
